Aktuelle Prognosen über steigende Lebensmittelpreise lassen besonders Geringverdiener derzeit wieder besorgt in ihre Geldbeutel schauen. Besonders sozial schwachen Familien, denen pro Tag weniger als fünf Euro für Lebensmittel zur Verfügung stehen, sehen sich kaum in der Lage, „gesund zu essen“.

Um das knappe Budget nicht bereits vor Ende des Monats aufzubrauchen, ist eine gute Menüplanung das A und O. Wichtig ist, sich schon vor dem Einkauf Gedanken über die einzelnen Gerichte zu machen und wirklich nur die notwendigen Zutaten zu kaufen. Sonderangebote aus den wöchentlichen Supermarktprospekten können bei der Menüplanung hilfreich sein. Ist der Brokkoli gerade im Angebot, könnte es beispielsweise die Woche Brokkoliauflauf geben. Aber auch bei roten Sonderpreisetiketten auf Produkten, deren Mindesthaltbarkeitsdatum bald abläuft, oder bei Preisnachlässen kurz vor Ladenschluss kann bedenkenlos zugegriffen werden, da diese Waren meistens immer noch von guter Qualität sind.

Gerade bei Obst und Gemüse spielt die Saisonalität eine wichtige Rolle. Ist gerade offiziell Erntezeit, sind die Früchte nicht nur nährstoffreicher, sondern oftmals auch preiswerter, da sich der Transport aus fernen Ländern, künstliche Reifungsmittel und ein geringeres Angebot auch auf die Preise niederschlagen. Tomaten kosten zum Beispiel im Frühjahr gut zwei Euro mehr pro Kilo als im Herbst. Wer die Augen aufhält, kann zur Saisonzeit auf Wochenmärkten preisgünstig frische Ware aus der Region erstehen.

Auch wenn es auf den ersten Blick nicht so scheinen mag, zahlt sich die frische Zubereitung aus natürlichen Zutaten am Ende nicht nur für die Gesundheit, sondern auch für den Geldbeutel aus. Die nötigen Kräuter zum Kochen kann z.b. die eigene Zucht auf der Fensterbank oder auf dem Balkon liefern.

Um möglichst wenig der teuren Lebensmittel wegwerfen zu müssen, sollte leicht Verderbliches wie Salate, Beeren oder frisches Fleisch am Wochenanfang, Haltbareres wie Kürbis oder Tiefkühlspinat zum Wochenende auf den Teller kommen.
